Life After Graduation: Internship, FMGE Prep and Coming Home

The sixth year of MBBS abroad is a supervised clinical internship, typically at the university's affiliated teaching hospital — the point where classroom learning becomes hands-on patient care under close supervision.

Most students begin serious FMGE (soon transitioning to NEXT) preparation during this internship year, building on the exam-oriented revision woven into the curriculum from earlier years rather than starting from zero.

After graduation, returning to India to sit the licensing exam is the standard path, though some students choose to pursue further postgraduate study internationally via exams like the USMLE, keeping options open beyond Indian practice alone.
